The Redemption of Christ

One of the most sacred truths of the Bible is the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

God has always been a redeemer of those He loves.  The Bible is the story of Divine Redemption.

“And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.”  (Psalm 78:35)

The Lord Jesus Christ, God’s son, came to this earth to redeem mankind.

Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold… But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: (1 Peter 1:18-19)

Redemption is when something is legally purchased.  Redemption involves a price being paid, and an exchange being made.

Jesus paid the price for us to be justified in God’s sight and to become God’s very own children. (Galatians 4:5)

Because we are redeemed, we legally belong to God.  What Jesus has redeemed us from, legally belongs to us.  For someone to attempt to take it away is thievery. (John 10:10)

In His redemptive work Jesus “gave Himself for us”. (Titus 2:14)  He suffered the consequences of sin and the wrath of God on our behalf. (Hebrews 9:26-28)

Isaiah prophesied of God’s suffering Servant, who would become the sacrificial lamb taking the sins of the people upon himself. (Isaiah 53)

Redemption is the basis of our prayers and blessings.  What Jesus redeemed us from is what we can legally expect God to deliver us from!

What Jesus redeemed us from; we can with Divine authority stand against and drive away!

What Jesus has redeemed for us, we can by Jesus’ authority, boldly receive from God.

By taking these things upon Himself, Jesus has redeemed us from:

1)     Our Sins – 1 Peter 2:24

2)     Our Iniquity (sinfulness, the carnal nature) Isaiah 53:6, Colossians 2:14

3)     Our Griefs and Sorrows – Isaiah 53:4

4)     Our Guilt and Condemnation – 2 Corinthians 5:21, (Romans 8:1)

5)     Our Sickness and Disease – Matthew 8:17

6)     The Curse – Galatians 3:13

7)     Our Place in Hell – Romans 10:7, Ephesians 4:9
